You may have heard of “the angels’ share”, where whisky is lost from the cask over many years through evaporation…. wafting invisibly into the heavens.
You probably haven’t heard of “the kelpies’ share”. Kelpies are horse-shaped water-spirits who inhabit lochs and rivers in Scotland.
Every once in a while they assume human form and come on to land to pinch a cask from a nearby distillery and place it in their watery lair. They don’t steal just any old cask though… only the best and most unusual whisky will entice them out of the water, which makes these casks some of the most unique and exceptional in the world.
